Volume Control for Sony Plasma TV?

I have a 42" Sony Plasma TV and when a commercial comes on the volume gets extremely loud. I am constantly adjusting the volume up and down. I notice that there is a volume compensation setting for the TV, but when I set it to ON it doesn't seem to make a difference. How do I prevent the commercials from being so loud without constantly adjusting the volume?

Answer:
You must have cable! What you are referring to is the unscrupulous practice of volume raising. The cable company varies the audio carrier signal, or induces noise so that your TVs built in Automatic gain control( the device that helps a TV lock onto a channel) will think the signal is weak and turn any limiting off. since the cable company has no problem with a weak signal they can do this.

Advertisers want people who are going to the kitchen or bathroom to still hear the commercial. This practice is frowned upon by the FCC. Turn them in and see what happens.

In the mean time use a home theater receiver with DB monitoring, unfortunately this is the only thing you have at your disposal
