Question for those who if truth be told OWN a Plasma or LCD TV.?
Answers: I own a 50" Sony Plasma. Plasma's enjoy an amazing picture but are 2x the price of a LCD, which has an almost equal picture element, unless you have a razor-sharp eye for pixel resolution, you can't tell the difference.I would shift with an LCD
i own an LCD and love it. LCD's are perfect for bright rooms. they don't show glare at all.
this inst a TV per se but a 42" computer monitor that get TV from my computer.
pros: VERY clear picture, flawless HD movie and television. wonderful gaming experience as well.
take much less space than the infirm kind.
cons: cost...
make analog tv look fuzzy and ugly.
we enjoy a 42 inch lg plasma tv. we love it. the picture is crystal clear. the only piece i didnt like and i didnt know just about this was we have to purchase a different cable box to use the hd part.
I bought a 50" (127 cm) Panasonic Viera plasma eyeshade a couple of years ago. I'm delighted next to it. The only piece missing is HDMI which wasn't around back afterwards. It has SD memory card socket so I can put my camera pics directly on the TV, which be neat.
The moral thing roughly speaking LCD is that there is no look hard, or reflection. Plasma TVs enjoy a glass eyeshade on them which can show the rest of the room if it's bright in the room. LCD screen are made of liquid crystal, similar to what you would see on a laptop. The good point about plasmas are they are relatively cheaper when it comes to bigger sizes. LCDs cost more, going away plasmas as a more value alternative. But in my experience, Plasmas own way better picture, and route better colors than most lcds. If you watch it surrounded by a darker room next to the curtains down, it's a beautiful TV.
I know you said not to answer if you don't own one, but I worked for Sony on the SXRD assembly row...don't buy one of those...they have problems beside image retention. They would gain screwed up just by going away it on for a 15 minute break and there be no intentions of fixing this problem, they just shipped them out anyway... I a short time ago wanted to confer you that advice...oh, and they be 50"
I asked the salesman at a Sony electronics store in West Palm shoreline the same interrogate just 3 days ago.
He informed me that Plasma be on the way out. LCD is a better picture and last a lot longer. In reality, Sony has discontinued making and selling the plasma TVs.

I enjoy a 42 inch plasma. I don't like the path the picture distorts the size of people. Unless you view in hd, race look fat.
It adjectives depends on what you want to do with your tv. You cant play video games on a plasma. I chose the lcd because i play xbox 360 and wii on it.
I didnt own the money to get a 1080p tv, but it isnt essential since no one broadcasts within the definition yet anyways. I bought an upconverting dvd player near surround sound and the picture looks pretty obedient, but its not what i was expecting. Still alot better than typical dvds on standard televisions.
If you enjoy the money, i would say capture a 1080p tv and a high definition dvd player if you want to survey movies on it. If not, just gain a nice 720p tv.
The sound from the tvs arent other that good. You may want to invest surrounded by some surround sound too.
I do not own a plasma, but I do own a 20 within DELL LCD computer monitor that can be a TV. I bought it because Maximumpc magazine said it had the best gray degree at the time. That was the most exalted factor because I cannot adjust the screen within any form.
Plasma is noisy and get hot. Prone to burn in.
LCD is usually smaller. The hottest ones are challenging plasma on size. the biggest problem next to LCD TVs is the refresh rate. It have to be fast because LCDs do not animate the whole blind just the pixels that own changed. That causes some problems sometimes near fast moving objects man displayed. I have not have that problem yet, but I know it exists. they are not as black any as a CRT TV. Another problem with LCD is that lighting coming from the sides of your screen might affect the picture. Mine have that problem but within a few days I did not even become aware of it.
I personally am contained by favor of big DLP TVs. No burn in. DLP doesn't own the black level that plasma does. The hottest ones have LEDs to replace the bulbs. If I buy a current TV that is what I would buy.

Plasma and LCD panel are both rate to have a 60,000 Hr partly life. Meaning that after almost 60,000 hours the TV will be about partially as bright as the day you first hooked it up. Thats something like 8.5 years of never turning the TV off, Av human being watching 8 hrs a day thats 24 years, Something else will fall short long before that panel should.
Panel TV's can be wallmounted so you can run with a larger eyeshade that you could with a projection or DLP (yuck colorwheel)
It's going to depend on what you are going to be using the TV for. Do you plan on ever using it as a Monitor? do you play alot of Video games? If so an LCD would be a apposite investment. LCD is not capable of getting screenburn.
Screenburn is when an photo get burned into your eyeshade, think mature pacman arcade games and you will see what Im talking going on for. Somepeople say they worked on an assembly string that made an Lcos unit, thatn is incapable of screenburn.
Both technology can get something call a dead or stuck pixel. I worked tech support for almost 3 years and lone got a stuck pixel nickname about once every 2 months.
OK.. First rotten, let me apologize for adjectives the answers you have received from associates that do NOT own one of these.

Some of this info is debatable, but most will be true.
First past its sell-by date, let me dispel some of the myths.
1. Plasma's will simply last a short in the order of of time
2. Plasmas will run out of gas
3. Plasmas are terrible beside glare... powerfully kinda
The facts are that most plasma tv's will last over 60k hours of viewing. That does not imply that they will no longer work at that point, that means that the productive brightness will be at 75% at that time. Also many plasma are starting to come next to anti glare coatings. But reflect about it, will you REALLY own a glare on your TV? Do you hold one on your tube now?
LCD's will concluding slightly longer, but are you really going to have alike TV for that long?
To me, and most other people, Plasmas enjoy much richer colors and deeper blacks.
In my case the Plasma be MUCH better than the LCD until I had the LCD professionally calibrate (a technician is the only being that can do this). Now they are pretty close. I do have a bluray player connected to respectively one and although the LCD is 1080p and the plasma is not, it is pretty hard to recount much of a difference.
in the size span you are looking plasma and lcd's are pretty closely priced. Unless you want the plasma to be a 1080p. you will pay extra for that. Anything over 50" and the LCD will cost you substansually more.
If I be you I would stick to brands you know. Stay away from off or entry smooth brands. A new tv is an substantial investment and you pretty much get what you payment for.
I enjoy the better blacks on the Plasma..
ohh and to answer the other guys give somebody the third degree.. Plasma is NOT going away. Neither is LCD

There's just ONE BENEFIT to Plasma over LCD...
.KIDS destroy the LCD panel by bash it with their little hand....or little toys....or running scissors/sharp objects across the screen...
If you own kids 3 to 10....lock it in your bedroom. The TV, not the kid. I hold a damaged LCD TV surrounded by my back room right very soon...and I DEAL Daily with respectively Brand of LCD /Plasma out there...I see MORE than anybody including salesmen...
And I right to be heard from my experience...I'd buy an LCD, but I'd steer clear of a PLASMA .....way too risky to own one.

if you go beside an LCD i highly recommend getting the one i get, Sony has basically about the best picture ....and not a soul comes close to the sound.
