How come pretty much all new CRT TV's have a time delay from when you hit the power button on the remote to when the TV actually turns on? My old TV turns on straight away but my new TV's have a 3 second delay on average between when i hit the power button on the remote and when the tv turns on.
Answer:
Some of the older TVs used to have the pic tube preheated ! so long as the TV was connected to a wall socket half heater volts were supplied to the CRT ! It was believed that the tube would last longer if it did not heat up from cold, they used to advertise the feature as " Instant On " .
Newer sets do not use this now . Cheers Pete.
It's because they used to allow the ray tube to switch on as soon as you pushed the button, The problem with that is the tube receives a great deal of energy which greatly reduces the life of the tube. Now they slowly introduce the power to make it last longer
