The first thing you should decide is LCD or Plasma. If you are getting a screen size larger than 42", plasma is definitely the way to go, sharper, better picture and typically a lower price. Some of the LCD's have 1080p (nearly twice as many pixels) but that is only part of the story. The other parts of the story are how deep the blacks are and how is it with fast motion-plasma wins in both categories. Pioneer Elite is considered by most to be the best plasma. You might want to know that there are only a few factories (Pioneer, Panasonic, Hitachi, LG and Samsung) , the other brands must purchase the glass panels and perhaps other components form one of those factories.
Firstly the person before me, Samsung do not make panels at all, nor do lg, they are both produced at the A factory in Japan along with Sony's. The best tv manufacturer by far is BnO as it has been for years. Loewe make some pretty good stuff to. But these are high end prices. Working in the tv industury the most popular make we seem to sell with good features is Samsung although their return rate is quite high. Sony is one make that never seems to get complaints along with Pioneer. Its not so much about getting the best brand but the best value for your budget and one that meets your needs.
