If I don't get HDTV channels, would it alter the quailty of my normal tv channels on an HDTV?

Is the HDTV worth getting for a normal cable without hdtv channels?

Does it better the appearence of normal non-HDTV tv shows?

Is it worth the cost?

Is it worth it if I have an Xbox 360?

Answer:
For normal TV, it's really not that much of a difference between 480i and 480p (ED TV). HD TV upgrades 480i to 480p, so you will see a slight difference between a normal TV and a HD TV that's using normal signal. If you have a HD tuner, you can pick up HD signals from ABC, NBC, Fox, etc. There's really no point in getting a HD TV if you're not going to use the the HD.

Is it worth it? I think it's worth it to get a HD TV, but that's just my personal opinion. Picture looks so much sharper than normal TV.

If you have a 360, games will look a lot better on a HD TV than a normal TV, but it's up to you if it's worth the money to get a HD TV just to play games.
I have an HDTV flat screen, and I went 2mo w/o signing up for HD service. Now that I have a HD box and service, I can't tell the difference; not even when I'm playing my xbox. The cable co. gets over w/ HD service b/c only certain tv stations offer HD picture quality. Not every channel will be in HD.
I've actually read on some web sites (including those of the manufacturers of the HD boxes) that a lot of the time they would actually make some of the problems on older channels.. look worse! I was surprised at it until I understood a bit more about the way that the systems work.. They use such high detail and huge amounts of data.. that the things that appear like 'small' troubles on a plain old analog tv end up looking much, much worse on the HDTV.. So, if there is any issue with the service.. including things you don't notice on the plain old tv.. you would probably notice them on the HDTV..

I personally wouldn't go for one if the cable co didn't have any HDTV channels yet.. We have the channels here, but I'm still not sold on the idea because of the costs involved.. I'm sure they'll come down in the future though.

As for the xbox.. I'd say.. unless you were going to be getting a HD DVD drive for it... and buying movies.. that you'll probably get good enough quality out of your regular tv for the time being.. unless you play the video games A LOT... then it might be something you want..

Just my thoughts though :)
It will slightly better the appearance of non-HD channels, but not by much. also, this would only be applicable if you are using Digital Cable rather than analog (cable straight into TV). Digital Cable minimizes artifacting that normally comes with analog cable.

it IS worth the cost.

it IS worth it with an xbox 360.

I love my HD tv. I love watching tv shows like House and movies (on TNT HD) like the Matrix Reloaded.

if you watch tv everyday at some point you will love it.
