What do I need to connect my PC to my HDTV?
Answer:
Connecting your PC to display on your TV is very different from hooking up HDTV to a PC.
A PCs display can be connected to a external TV source depending on the TVs input types and the PCs VGA output type. If your TV accepts a 15pin VGA input then you only need a Male to Male VGA cable, Same with DVI, S-Video, However if your TV only accepts Composite RCA or 75ohm Coax you will need a VGA scan converter that converts your computers VGA output to Composite RCA/S-Video. If your using 75ohm coax input then you will also need a RF modulator to convert the Composite RCA - 2- 75ohm Coax.
Now for the sound portion you need to connect a 1/8" stereo jack/cable to your PCs sound output Line Out jack, then connect it to your TVs Audio input usually RCA L/R.
As for HDTV to PC you need a Video Capture device for the video signal and the Line In audio port for the sound.
You might get better results with a TV tuner card
I assume the video card on your PC has only a VGA output. If so you'll need an adaptor to convert the VGA to HDMI unless your tv has a VGA input. Your video card may have a DVI output. If so that would give you a better picture. DVI is essentially HDMI without the sound. Either way, VGA or DVI you'll need to run component cables for your audio or use the sound system on your pc.
Possibly nothing more than a monitor cable The new HDTV's have a multiplicity of possible inputs, including often a standard computer monitor input. Look at the manual or at the back of the TV to see what is available.
if your tv has a vga input use that, if not then use DVI input, newer vid cards have dvi out which can be converted to VGA, im not sure if vga can be converted to DVI. For sound just use the optical out from sound card to your reciever so you can have surround sound.
