When will "conventionnal TV" stop working surrounded by Canada?

Many people are buying HD (high definition) TV, next to 16:9 screen...

But when will conventionnal TV (the "old" ones, next to "low" resolution, 4:3 screen) stop working? Is there a date when the signal will not be provided anymore? If so, is the date different for cable providers and antenna?

I'm asking, because my actual TV is getting hoary, and I'm thinking about buying a clean one... I'd rather linger a few years before going HD, and conventionnal TV are cheap... However, if it is to stop working surrounded by a year or two, then I'll go over...

If you have any suggestion with your answer (e.g. network links), I'd like to enjoy them too.

Thank you!

Answers:    In Canada no date has be set for a full move to digital. All analog television service contained by the U.S., though, is supposed to end by April 7, 2009. So you can be sure Canadian networks that spew out U.S. stuff won't show much analog after that.

Prices for HD hang on to coming down, but you're right that tubes are cheapest. I found the best compromise in Sony's hi-scan Trinitron Wega (admittedly, that be a couple years ago). It's cool because it fills the peak (no black bars) with both 4:3 and 16:9 -- you purely click Zoom to watch HD shows.
