What component causes my VCR/TV to shut itself off?

I have a vcr/tv combination unit (vcr built in below television). Someone forced a tape in or somehow got the vcr gear tracking out of synch (I think). I can turn get the unit to accept a tape, it takes it in and then the whole unit (tv and vc) shuts off. I have studied everything across the circut board and can find no problem. Any Ideas?

Answer:
The vcr portion is out of alignment.when tape was forced in it jumped out. With it out of alignment, the tv won't stay on.It's not very hard to fix but you do need some know how.It requries taking it all apart and basically resetting the vcr in the right gear position.I can do it in my sleep but hard to talk you through it.Should cost in the 50.00 70.00 range.Good luck
That sounds like a mechanical problem. There is a mechanism on the VCR part of the unit that tells the VCR when the tape is not moving and shuts it down. It sounds like when the tape was forced into the unit that it might have damaged the drive belt. If this happened you may have to have the belt replaced. What happened is, if the belt has slack in it, it will pause for a split second and the device will sence it not moving and shut it off.
take it back to the store and tell them the TV/VCR be shutting down with out you doing anything.
Most likely the belts are bad or you have something jamming the mechanical drive system. Typically it is not economical to get it fixed in a shop. Think about gitting a new one.
