Since you own a set that was an above average set at the time you bought it, it may massively well hold a VGA input. I wasn't able to find any information in relation to it's resolution-so the picture of your desktop might not be the best if the resolution isn't high satisfactory. However, it would be good for watching DVDs played on your computer. No, you won't do any blight. You could try going through the TV menus. There should be a place in the menu where on earth you select the input to be viewed.
I have a quick trawl arround on Google & found this review of your TV:
"The one surprise extra is a VGA input on the final panel. This means it can be connected to a PC or used beside a set-top Web TV Internet browser box. The display resolution is 640 x 480 pixels, and the image is not as stable as a PC monitor but it could be used within conjunction with a digital earthly or satellite decoder for lightening-fast Internet downloads. For some reason there’s no mention of the VGA nouns in the instruction book, but it does come next to a PC software driver disc and an installation sheet."
So it looks like it is a VGA (monitor) socket, albeit a low resolution one.
