hi i just bought a hdtv today with a built in tuner. people told me to buy a hdtv with a tuner so i can watch hd channels without having to pay comcast extra for a box. I'm going through the channels and there are like over a hundred. Can someone tell me which are the numbers for the hd channels? At least the local ones, like fox, cbs, cw,etc? So far i only managed to find abc hd. I don't know if the channels vary by area but i live in silver spring, md 20905. I went to comcast's website to try and look it up but it just said "we are currently add channel lineups please come back later".

Boy, did you get some bad advice! The only channels you can get without subscription (cable/satellite) are commercial, over-the-air. Check your local programing for ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX. Channel numbers vary, depending on where you live. You'll need an antenna of some type, indoor or outdoor, depending on how far your live from the source - if you can get it at all.
I believe it's channnel's 208 to 220, and 300 for HBO HDTV.301 is regular HBO.These might vary though.ESPN has a hi-def channel but I can't remember the number.Just looked up the following link. Just type in your zip and scroll the list for HDTV programs.
I think it might be different in each area, but in Boston, the HD channels are 801 to 899.
