We are planning to by a 50" TV subsequent week. What do we buy??

We are looking for the best TV for the money and I don't know what to get. We don't trouble if it is rear projection, plasma or LCD... or any other caring. Overall we want the best picture, for the best price that will last the longest time. We hold been considering reverse projection since plasma and LCD seem overpriced. Can anyone assistance - I know nothing nearly this stuff.

Answers:    I am researching the exact same issues. What I keep reading is that general public prefer plasma over the other two choices but they tend to not last as long. LCD last longer but they are pricier.

Personally, I've been looking at the Samsung DLP near LED source. The LED source lasts longer than the single wishy-washy source but the set is a few hundred more. My only concern near the projection tvs is that people complain a bit in the order of waves surrounded by the screen or bends of buoyant near the corners.

As a result, I'm around to just buy a 50" plasma and hope it last me 5 years till technology changes.

Edit 11/19/07: I changed my mind. Best Buy offered a operate that was too apposite to pass up. They are selling the Samsung DLP 56" projection (with middle-of-the-road light source) and the XBox 360 for $1499. That is a price drop of $500 on the tv (which have good reviews) and you essentially get the XBox 360 for free.

However, they took the $349 for the XBox 360 from the price of the tv, dropping the price of the tv down to $1150 and $349 for the XBox 360. The best bit of this is I was competent to purchase the 4 year extended warranty on the tv for only $249 (which includes bulb replacement) instead of the $349 that it would enjoy cost me if the tv were priced at $1499.

Now, if you don't want the XBox 360 or the extended warranty, put up for sale the XBox 360 off for around $300 (new) and you will enjoy purchased a tv (with a good review) that be selling for $1999 last week for singular $1200.
Rear projection is fine if you plan on setting it on a table, but LCDs and plasmas can be mounted on a wall to save space, but afterwards you need to run the cable through the wall or find some other way to conceal them.

If you're willing to settle for a 47" you can win a brand name LCD (probably better than a plasma) for $1500, approaching this one:

The Sony line is for you!

The best most reliable tvs next to good factory support above any other.

The sony 50E3000 is a extraordinarily nice tv. Excellent picture quality full 1080p within a 18" deep backside projection LCD unit.

Although the cost is alot lower than the flatpanels its on the whole because there is a bulb that will turn out about every 2-3 years.

So the cost of ownership over time is complex than the flat panels, but to me its still worth it.
My best guidance is the following....after a lot of research, I bought a Toshiba. What a bust! A lot of problems next to both the TV & Best Buy. After I returned it, I went and researched companies REPAIR RECORDS ex: what be the customer service like, what be there hours, etc. I done up with a Panasonic. Very especially happy. I get a lot of apposite info from cnet.com
