Getting set to buy a flat panel HD t.v. Which is better, plasma or lcd?

What is the difference between 1080p and720p? I will not have an HD signal for a while, only a basic cable set up. Does that engineer any difference in my decree?

lcd is the best and 1080p is the best...its just the resolution size. i own a 720p and my uncle has 1080 and i cant update a difference but i know alot of people say aloud its a HUGE different....its not!
