Is there an alternative to an LCD or plasma TV?

Answer:
Despite those mentioned before, there are actually FOUR alternatives to choose from; the CRT, the front projector, the rear projector and the relatively new (and ultra-thin)OLED displays.

These are NOT on sale to the public yet, even though many are eager to buy! http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/sonys...

It is still more of an experimental display technology at the time. The two main barriers to this brilliant technology are cost ( $$$$$$ for a big set) and longevity (most sets last about as long as an incandescent light bulb!)
The three great things about it are the fact that it is by far, the most compact technology (most screens are as thin as cardboard!), the cheapest to run (they use less power than regular LEDS - which is quite hard to believe) and the quality of the image - that surpasses all other displays by far! (they also lay claim to a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio)
Yeah, the Radio.
Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) TV's - may be bulky, but they are starting to get smaller, and sound in them are very good. Some are even in HD now.
Projector. And if you're wanting HD they also do HD projectors
DLP Projectors
yes its the cathode ray tube or old syle chuncky tvs. most people don,t realise that this is the superior picture quality although the oldest of the technology.lcd and plasma cant come anywhere near matching the picture quality of a cathode ray tv.they are only popular because they are slimline and can be hung on the wall.
Recently, a new alternative to conventional televisions has popped up, the plasma flat panel display. The word plasma refers to the gas trapped inside every pixel, which lights up when an electric charge is applied. These televisions have wide screens, comparable to the largest CRT sets, and are only a few inches thick.

A Plasma TV is the newest innovation in display technology. Ranging anywhere from 32" to 70" diagonally and only 3" to 4" in depth, Plasma Display Televisions provide a superior viewing experience. Plasma screen TVs consist of almost 3,000,000 pixels that are illuminated in a specific order to create the on-screen image.

Because there is no "beam", the on-screen image has perfect focus, uniform light output and the highest degree of picture clarity on a Plasma Screen TV. Each pixel on plasma TVs consists of 3 cells of red, blue, and green light which are combined to form the image. By combining these cells, plasma TVs are able to display more than 16 million colors.

If you are wanting a thin televison.than NO, only LCD and Plasma have the capablity to be put into a thin casing.

But if you are talking about quality in vison that's comparable to LCD and Plasma, than DLP (digital light processing) is an alternative
CRT monitor

A great idea would be buying a projector. Turn your room into a theater.
Get an HD television with a standard glass tube.
Far superior picture and more durable than the plasmas.
I saw a cracker of a Samsung television in Comet the other day.
HD, CRT television. Comparing it to the plasmas and LCD televisions around it , it was brilliant. I am not joking go see for yourself.

Everyone sings the praises of the new "wonderful" plasmas but the truth is that the "old" CRT tube is far better in terms of picture quality and durability. You dont get dead pixels on a CRT set either.
CRT TV old-fashioned tube set
YOu can get a DLP. They are not quite as thin but unless you plan on hanging on you wall it doesnt matter. Samsung has a new series of slimmer ones.
YES LASER TV if you wait till xmas
