Normal tv looking better than HDTV?

Well i recently bought a Viewpia 19" LM19IEB6 HD Ready LCD tv beside built in dvd player bad play.com. in the specifications it clearly say that it supports 480P,720P and 1080i

I recently hooked this up to my trial ps3 console with a hdmi cable and go on display settings on my ps3, ticked the boxese saying 1080i, 720p and 480p. so everything be fine and all worked powerfully until i played a game and realised everything seem all jaggedy and pixely. i tried my ps3 on my other ancient square box tv we own and strangely everything was smooth!
and its indistinguishable on all the other games? is my hdtv not transmitting hd or sumthing? its contained by 720p which is meant to be miles better next a regular tv... but its worse!!?
does anyone have a solution?

Answers:    give somebody the third degree:

was it a PS2 winter sport???

most older ps2 games will look worse next to HD connections because it sharpens the pixel quality so much.

ps3 games on blu-ray discs look great! I get motorstorm and drakes fortune uncharted!
If you are highly close to the TV when playing, it'll look like that...

Also, save in mind that HDTV's response times are nowhere close to the hoary tube TV's....HDTV's = 2-8ms Old TV's = less than .5ms

Try moving subsidise a little...
