I recently purchesed a Hitachi HD plasma TV. I did profusely of research, it got great reviews for picture element however I have be pretty disappointed. The non HD picture quality is poor and the HD while accurate, isn't great. Do I need a better cable or is in that something else I can purchase to increase the quality of the picture?

HDMI cable may oblige, also, are you connected to cable or satellite? I switched from digital cable to satellite shortly after buying my HD TV and I'm much more satisifed (because of additional bandwidth).
Lastly, check out the configuration settings on the tv - probably they're not optimized.
