Do you have to have a special tv for hi-def?

Answer:
Yes, you need a hi-def TV. You also need to have cable or satellite channels broadcast in hi-def. There are 3 types of hi-def TVs on the market now. There's 1080i, which means 1,080 lines of content interlaced (540 lines at a time)...then there's 720p, which means there are 720 lines of persistent content...and there's 1080p, which is 1,080 lines of persistent content. Right now, there are no TV channels broadcasting in 1080p. The only way to view 1080p is with HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD hooked up to a 1080p TV. I have HD Cable, and there are only a handful of HD channels (broadcast in 1080i or 720p). If you get a 1080p TV, you will only get to see 1080i or 720p content on it until TV channels start broadcasting in 1080p, which could be 5 years down the road.
