How does a remote control sensor work?

as in tv remotes or any other devices that use wireless signals

Answer:
The remote control sends out a rapid series of flashes of light, infrared light that is, so you cant see it. Then the sensor in the TV looks for this flashing light, and depending on the flash sequence it what function is activated, volume, channel, etc. If you point your remote at most video cameras and press one of the buttons you will see the led at the end of the remote flashing.
Most TV remotes use an infrared signal, some use radio signals though.

This sends information to a sensor in the device, I.E. the TV.
