How do you tell the difference between uhf &vhf tv aerials?
Answer:
If you are in the UK, you will find that ONLY UHF aerials are used for TV, so you are going to see them on most domestic rooftops. The UHF antennas have shorter elements than VHF antennas which (in the UK) are only used for FM radio.
Simple. VHF aerials are MUCH bigger than UHF
Size matters. UHF aerials have a max of about an 11 inch elements with 8 plus elements, VHF aerials have about 30 inch elements with 3 plus elements.
A VHF TV aerial is a dipole, and is usually mounted vertically, though when I was a kid, ours was nailed to the wall in the sitting room horizontally. I think there was also an "X" shaped one. You won't see them now, as VHF hasn't been used for TV for, ooh, about 30 to 40 years.
