Is there a simple way to tune in a television? Or are they all different?

it just stumps me every time I try to line up the channels and I've never figured out a standard procedure.

Answer:
Do you have cable? And a fairly new TV?

Use your remote, and hit Menu. Then find Channel Search on there, and click it. It will automatically search through all of the available channels, and lock them in for you. (It's called computerized memory.)

Make sure your connection (through the menu as well) is set on cable.
Generally it is straight forward, as indicated in the answer above. But if you hang on to your instruction manual and never let it get thrown out your life will be a lot easier!
Most TVs are different but usually there is an 'enabler' via the Menu or Search button on your remote.
