What is the difference between LCDs, DLPs and plasma tvs?
Answer:
LCD and plasma are both flat panel, dlp is projection. So LCD and plasma are wall mountable, DLP is not.
DLP, being a projection tv, has a limited viewing angle, which means it will get darker as you move off to the side at more than a 30 degree angle about.
DLP uses 1.3 million moving mirrors on a microchip that move to reflect light at a spinning color wheel to give you your picture.
LCD and plasma also differ from eachother. Plasma has the possibility of burn ins, though not as much as in the past. LCD doesn't have this problem. Plasma has a fixed pixel aspect ratio, so it is easier to see the pixels that make up the picture. Plasma has a glass front on it that is very reflective, whereas lcd has a non-glass, non-reflective screen. Plasma generally has a higher contrast ratio, so blacker blacks and whiter whites. Plasmas are generally cheaper than an LCD of the same size, and you can get plasma tv's bigger than LCD, i've seen up to 65 in. Overall, LCD is a better tv than plasma, but a little more expensive. DLP is in a different category, but still a good tv if you can go with projection, as you can get a bigger tv for your money by going with projection.
The plasma television sets are larger than LCD's and measure about 42 inches. The size of the LCD is approximately 37 inches. But a 42-inch LCD TV would cost $1000 more than the plasma television set. The LCD TV’s weigh lesser than the plasma set. The plasma television sets are bulky and therefore they constantly require installation. They are well structured in order to prevent overheating due to constant usage by a means of proper ventilation.
