Toshiba 52" tv next to convergence issue?

I have a 52" Toshiba that have a problem with a convergence amplifier problem-the ICs for the tv are 15-20.00 a peice on authorized parts dealers-can I fix this myself and reclaim a couple hundred bucks? If I can how do I fix them? I have a soldering iron and solder I in recent times don't know what to look for when I take the spinal column cover off the tv. I assume that the bass from a movie I be watching caused the problem-the tv is nearly 7 yrs old but replacing the tv is too expensive for me. Sears said for 99.00 they will come to my place on tuesday and if I authorize the repair-the 99.00 go towards the repair/labor cost but I have already be quoted 340-380 from another shop to come pick up the tv, keep for a week and repair after to return my tv fixed. Should I just permit them fix it?

Answers:    Unless you are comfortable or have worked next to high voltage electronics, I would purely look for the best quote AND the place that will guarantee the work. It may be easy to fix if you can remove the major board without have to move things around.

Sometimes it can be a pain to obtain to working on tvs because of needing to remove stuff and room to place the tube, etc.
Get the SEARS guy out....they don't charge any more than the regular TV guy and he may in reality fix it right there contained by your Home !

I would....and I'm not the Sears guy...
And I charge about $340 to $380 for that type of repair too...

I guess repair charges are pretty consistent across the nation.
