Answers:    I assume you have a CRT (cathode gleam tube) type TV, i.e., the old giving with the insightful back instead of the clean flat panel kind. There is no bulb surrounded by a CRT, the light comes from high-ranking energy electrons striking the phosphor on the front and making it luminosity. I'm also going to assume the picture really is perfect save for brightness, i.e., no color shift, nor any weird distortions.

Did the problem arise gradually or adjectives of a sudden? If it's sudden, did you check to make sure the TV's settings aren't screwed up? Somebody messing next to the buttons or remote could have merely set the brightness to very low.

Almost anything else is going to be hardware, such as the flyback transformer (see URL below), which lucklessly means a trip to the service shop. The factor is usually cheap, but labor usually isn't. It's probably not worth it, because even a few hundred bucks is a big chunk of the cost of a brand new TV. It's not adjectives bad report, maybe it's time to win a cool new TV anyway. :)
