Plasma or LCD?

Both are good choices, although I tend to side near the LCD instead of plasma. Plasma gives deeper blacks next to better viewing angles, but is still subject to burn in on the blind if you play video games or watch indistinguishable channel adjectives the time. LCD just keep getting better and better and the prices are coming down big time. I will probably be buying one subsequent year myself, and will either progress with the Sharp Aquos or a Sony. There are some cheapos out at hand, but you DO get what you pay cheque for. I suggest checking out cnet.com to get a better toy with on the whole plasma/lcd debate and the brands that are the best!! Definitely LCD over plasma. I just bought a 32" Toshiba LCD and love it. And if you're considering something larger than 42", check out DLP tv's. They are also better than plasma and the prices are modest.
I would suggest checking with a retailer. It really depends on what you plan on watching most on the box. Plasma's have really gotten better as far as the burn-in. Like Samsung have anti-burn technology where burn-in is no longer a concern. But close to the person above stated, Plasma's do hold better contrast ratios showing the blacks deeper. But LCD's usually can hold on to up with gaming faster and are smaller quantity likely to own a "ghosting" effect with hasty motion on the screen. And stick beside a 720P rather than the 1080P as the broadcast networks cannot even broadcast contained by anything higher than 720P or 1080I which mechanism that 1080P is only apposite if you have a PS3 or X-box 360 or BluRay player. By the agency the difference between a 1080I and 1080P is the 1080I shows half the pixels at one time and refresh the other half as the peak changes but to the unclothed eye it is undetectable and with 720P and 1080P they are continuous or "Progressive" which shows a much better and clearer picture. So I would not gamble away my money on the 1080P unless you have a gaming system to really show past its sell-by date the picture. otherwise you are wasting your money on technology you can't even use.

LCDs have plastic matte screen.LCDs are very fragile,if you hold small children you are taking a hugh risk with LCD. My 34# ,3yr hoary grandson broke my 40 Sony with an abandoned drinking cup. At least Sony say that it can happen. The TV be 5 mos. old.$2000, unrepairable.
Plasma have a glass peak more sturdy but somewhat reflective.
Plasma unit will other have the better picture, more vivid, bright, crisp, colorful.
A element brand will serve you well.
The best plasmas are and the most reliable are Pioneer Plasma, Hitachi Plasma, Panasonic Plasma. Any other plasma besides the Toshiba plasma which are discontinued are the one and only good ones.
For LCD unit, Sony makes the best. I would fairly suggest anything else besides Toshiba, Panasonic.
Stay away from refurbished units, low point units resembling Samscum (Samsung) most walmart elecrtonics have samsung second-hand goods inside.
For a great movie room, plasmas are jaw dropping flair. Especially a 60".
