Answers:    One of the most well-known and commonly encounter problems with today’s audio-video equipment involves the HDMI nouns, particularly between displays and set-top boxes. The primary culprits losing most HDMI related interoperability problems have be traced to problems with HDCP and/or EDID and are invariably the defect of the consumer electronics manufacturers; within your case Toshiba or (more likely) the set-top box businesswoman. In some cases a component that works fine with one manufacturer’s piece of equipment may not function properly beside similar equipment from another manufacturer. However contained by your case the symptoms that you’re describing are not typical of HDCP and/or EDID related problems.

Nevertheless, the first step is to double-check the settings on your Toshiba to craft certain that the video inputs are properly configured for the HDMI nouns. If that checks-out OK then you will have need of to determine if your HDMI interconnect is playing a role. If possible try another HDMI cable, preferably another brand, especially if your HDMI cable is longer than 3 meters. It is also a possibility that the STB has malfunction that only affects HDMI; this would be impressively easy for a cable tech to determine.

Furthermore, it is terrifically important beside today’s A/V components to make indisputable, where applicable, that adjectives (HDMI equipped) hardware has the most modern firmware updates installed.

You should also contact your cable provider and notify them that you are experiencing HDMI-related problems with your set-top box. For the time human being you can attempt a temporary fix by power-cycling your set-top box while your TV is powered-on. This is intended to trigger HDCP re-authentication between HDMI interconnected hardware. If this fail to help after your only remaining remedy is to switch back to the component video nouns until your cable provider has have an opportunity to help resolve your equipment nouns problem.

HDMI is a fairly complex interface and the CE industry is still experiencing growing pains beside this new interface.

Your answer could all do next to resolution. With SD channels the chief resolution they are broadcast and transmitted at is 480p (640 vertical lines by 480 horizontal lines). When they come thru, the tv is taking the pixels that make up the picture and making them fit the 720p,1080i, or 1080p peak. The nice round pixels become stretched ovals. Thus, killing picture power. Don't worry everything will grasp better in coming years because everything is going to be digital soon, to some extent than two different formats.
ACTUALLY your signal quality from Time Warner is not polite...

HDMI actually provides BETTER detail than the component cable, so undesirably you see MORE NOISE in the picture too.

And that's why it looks better next to Component Cabling....
You have 2 choices, SAVE HDMI for HD-DVD <or> return with Time Warner out to your home and have them boost the signal to noise ratio of your Cable signal.....
