When I turn my tv off it has a green light about the size of a thumb print in the middle of the screen. It appears as if it's moving. What is it and what's causing it? My bf said it might be because the tv is about to "die" on us. I'm not sure how old the tv is or what make and model it is.
Answer:
Do we take it that your BF is not a TV Tech ?.The other two answers are wrong as well !
When you switch off, the deflections circuits stop working before the high voltage has gone, this leaves the Tube heaters with a little emission left before that too fades !.
Short answer without technicalities is that your Tv is normal---just slow at dieing when switched off !!
Cheers Pete
If its an old CRT then your bf is correct. The high voltage or something other major is about to go, like the crt itself . It can be repeaired maybe but that will cost more then a newer better one.
If a magnet comes in contact with a CRT TV it will cause permanent discoloration similar to what you are encountering.
