1600:1 contrast ratio?

I am considering a purchase on a 47" Vizio 1080p LCD HDTV but I noticed it have a pretty low contrast ration of 1600:1 compared to other tv's that are a lot more expensive such as 7000:1. Should I right to be heard no, and not buy the vizio just because of the ratio...is it really such a big agreement? I don't really understand the total concept of the ratio anyway. I appreciate your respone.

Answers:    The ratio describes the difference between the brightest white and the darkest black color the set can create.

Contrast is the single most important factor governing photo quality, better than color or even resolution!

I agree near Codeman.
The better (higher) the contrast, the better the image part. There's almost no point in buying an HDTV if you can't even see it properly.
Contrast is a push button factor in carving quality, bar resolution.
My recommendation would be to ditch the Vizio and dance for another. (There are many other HDTV's out nearby that mach Vizio's quality but hold more contrast. Some might even be cheaper.)
I also recommend you to search for HDTV's that bestow at least a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. If you can, run higher. If you enjoy high contrast, you can truly hold a real HDTV experience.
