TV PROBLEM!! my sony TV is showing a bowed surrounded by picture, I've hear it's probably a pincushion problem.?
Answers: . It MIGHT be something you can adjust, but probably NOT. Check the repair site below. There's something called a 'PIN'.
"...If you own a Sony XBR TV or monitor, and in that is a small hole on the back panel, next to a tiny push-button switch within, next your set has a remote service mode.
If you press and hold the button, next turn on the set, it will come up in service mode. " ...
... Did you try UNplugging the set for 2-3 minutes? That might de-magnitize the tube. Make sure at hand are NO motors or electrical stuff around the set.
The 'expert' site says: "...The pincushion effect you saw worries me, too. But it is too unlikely the convergence board is gone as capably. You can get a pincushion effect when the giant voltage dies down, but you should also have see the image on the eyeshade become dim due to lack of accelerate voltage. So, I am going to stick with my prediction that the problem is surrounded by the main power supply paragraph that is feed the deflection amplifiers. Further, I am going to predict it to be an electrolytic filter capacitor that has shorted down the B+ string..." etc.
So it could be 2-3 things, NONE cheap. $100+ If the set if over 7-8 yrs old, dump it.
Usually its not a costly repair. Even if the convergence circuit is not functioning a repair approaching that would run about $250-$475.
Usually its a small bonnet, IC, transistor, convergence repair, broken joints also can lead to that.
