Best 37" LCD TV on the market as of May 2007?
Answer:
In my opinion, the best bang for the buck is the Vizio VX37L from Costco. I helped a neighbor pick one out a few weeks ago, we ordered the hardware to attach it to the wall (it is sort of "floating" in front of the entertainment center where the old 27" set was before it died), just got it mounted yesterday, and she is thrilled!
Before she ordered it, I pointed out that the sound wasn't going to be terrific from this set's built-in speakers. I wouldn't personally be able to be limited to this model as my primary TV without having a good receiver and speakers to use in conjunction with it, but my neighbor just wanted a bigger, brighter picture, and to join the world of high-def, and at the price this set is ideal for her.
Consumer Reports gave a favorable rating to a Vizio 42" LCD set in their March 2007 issue ("very good HD picture quality at a low price for the size"), and in my opinion that comment would apply to this 37" model as well. But if you search within Y! Ans for "Vizio" you will find several people have pointed out what they feel are reliability/servicing limitations of all Vizios. We bought a 20" Vizio for our kitchen in January, and we are totally pleased with it. I don't expect it to fail in the first eight years or so, but if it does, I'll just have to see what's available at that time. This is just a sort of "self-insurance". In the case of the VX37L, it's a matter of spending $800 for the Vizio versus maybe $1200 for a more established brand. I'm comfortable with the idea, and I'd like to suggest it as an option for you.
The Sony Bravia are the best LCDs. Go see for yourself. Enjoy one.
