Need give a hand on whether to repair the tv I own or in recent times catch a brand new one?
Answers: Depends on the cause of the problem.
If its power surge defacement, from a storm power loss, etc. the problem component inside has be stressed and therefor causing you problems. Probably contained by the vertical output section of the circuitry. The problem near power surges is that you don't know what the next component to go wrong will be. No repairman will tell you that you could be replacing component after component because they want to replace them for you.
You could find lucky and just call for a vertical output transistor or something. They usually last more that 4 years, so I suspect in that has be a power surge to cause it to be bland. After replacing it though, something else may fail within 30 days, etc.... Just my 2 cents.
We live in a throw away society, near fewer and a smaller amount good repair populace available.
With a price tag around $1,799.99 (at circut city) it's not cheap, but it's rate as a good HDTV. Go for it.
Buying a unknown TV would most likely be the best article to do. Having the TV repaired would cost lots of money and by the time that it was repaired you will enjoy wished that you have bought a new TV. Buy a fresh TV because it will be worth it.
It would be cheaper to repair your current set - even a power supply or a fly back (most expensive parts) are around a hundred dollars plus some labor to replace. Even at that price, you would probably know how to sell your current set for more than it cost to repair.
People voice this is a disposable society, but only because family are too lazy to fix things. I spent $140 to fix my end television and later sold it a year later for $250. I suspect your 36" RCA is worth fixing and selling (or giving to ancestral, etc.)
