So generally speaking any type of television that is HDTV compatible will be nicer to look at than one that is not. Keep in mind there are also levels of HDTV, like 1080p, and you must have a compatible receiver, or antenna to receive the HDTV signals.
plasma tv is a kind of hd tv what you mean is between plasma or lcd tv. they are both good nowadays. its hard to tell which is better. what i know is that plasma tv is much cheaper to lcd tv.

both are as good as each other, however it all depends on what you watch or play.
So if you like gaming, watching sport and fast action movies, them PLASMA, as it doesn't have so much " lagging " ( ghousting ) as a lcd, it also has a better contrast ratio ( whites and blacks ) and a brighter coulour.
BUT if you aren't into any of these and just watch normal tv, then a lcd will give you better defination.
But depends on what size you want, as the smallest plasma is 37", if you want bigger and dosh no object go for pionner or panasonic.
