Hooking up my vhs player to my gateway?

ok I have a Akai tv with a bulit in dvd player and VCR its not an HD or plasma tv i bought it like 4 years ago. I want to hook up the VCR player to my gateway desktop computer so i could save and store the vhs movie to my computers hard drive. also the movie is copyrighted so i will need to some how by pass this. and will it be more difficult to do this with a combo tv like i have rather than just hooking a VHS player not connected to a dvd player or a tv? my computer is about 4 years old and it has usb ports and firewire ports and a serial port and a video port and a VGA port so if that helps u to answer my question better. and my tv has all the standard ports video in and out audio in and out. well thanks 4 the info!
