my tv is connected to a cable box, it's giving out loud hissing noise. my other tv does not do this. what's the reason? someone gave an answer but the cable box has no volume feature in it. please advice. i'll go crazy with this noise. i love to watch at night after work, esp. the news, but i don't enjoy it; besides, the people upstairs are disturbed by it, altho' they don't tell me.

Does the TV do okay with the VCR or DVD player? If not, the trouble is in the TV. If its okay with the other inputs, your cable box is the trouble, You may not have a volume control on the remote (for the cable box) but I bet there is one. I stumbled onto the volume control for my cable box while trying to set up the controls for my Sony TV. Try contacting the cable company if the box proves to be the trouble, if any other inputs show the same problem, get the TV serviced.
