I recently bought a samsung 40" LCD. Most movies I see still have the black bar on the top and the bottom, like letterbox widescreen. My dvd is set to 16:9 and my tv is set to 16:9. Example... I rented Knocked up from Netflix ratio be Widescreen Anamorphic 1.85:1 It fit the whole blind no black bars. I rented Transfromers near the ratio Widescreen 1.85:1 and I had black bar. What does the anamorphic mean? I thought when I bought a widescreeen tv I would never take the blackbars again. I know I can use the wide fit button to stuff the screen but I really dont want to cut any of the sign off. Please someone explain the difference?
Answers: Anamorphic funds the DVD player is allowed to RESIZE the picture to fit your screen....
True 16:9 aspect ratio is 1.78 : 1, so 1.85 is close, but not close adequate.....and if the DVD is not anamorphic, it locks the picture into 1.85 and only 1.85.....
You can rummage High and Low for Anamorphic 1.85 but here's the DIRTY little secret that not a soul tells you.....
Movie producers WANT you to stir SEE their movies in the movie theaters....and they do not build DVDs that fit your TV set....
They WANT you to see their movies in the theaters....inevitability I say it again?
Everybody would hang around for the DVD to come out if it fit the screen....
