How many sky boxes can be run off one satellite dish?

We currently have 2 sky plus boxes and were told a year ago that an adaptor was going to be out within 6 months to which a further 2 sky boxes could be added.has anyone heard of this.

Answer:
A sky box runs off one feed and a sky+ box runs off of two feeds and at the moment there is only four feeds available. Sky are developing an LNB (a part of the dish that routes the feeds) that can support 8 feeds thereby allowing people to run up to 4 sky+ boxes. This was planned for release last year but obviously hasn't been yet...

you can buy something called a quad something or other which you change on the front of your dish to run 4 boxes of
Well, having recently just had sky plus installed at my new house, I was told that you can run 4 off one dish if you want to be able to watch different channels on each box.

The installation guy told me that if you can get hold of a magic eye (I have no idea what this is) then you can turn the RV on the tv on and then it will receive the signal from another box in a different room but you have to watch the same channel.

He tried to charge me £25 for a 'magic eye' (I refused) so i would imagine that they cost about £10 to buy.
Maybe you should install a security system so they don't run off with them.
Please ignore my answer, I'm amusing myself today!

Depends on how many outpputs there are on the business end of the dish. The electronic lump at the end of the dish is call an LNB which is short for "Low Noise Bridge". Normally they only have one output but you can get them with 2,3 and four outputs. If you have one with four outputs i.e. a quad LNB then you can have four independent sky boxes hanging off of one dish.
We run 2, I have seen nothing to indicate more are available. Having watched as the 2 nd was installed I can't see how any more would be a problem to add.

The "piggy back" system, as it is known here, is governed by the "bill payer" selecting the package of channels available.

I guess if you wanted to add more it would be best to contact Sky themselves and get a price for installation and the increase in your rental.
Currently you could add another sky + to your existing set up, as far as i am aware the Quad adaptors are not available yet.
i have been told as many as you want all you need to do is get the bit what sits on the front of the dish with as many coax connectoers as you want hey presto

One feed, one box.
Quad LNBs (Low Noise Blocks) are available from satellite Superstore or Solent Satellite, but these are for proper satellite systems not the Mickey Mouse Sky system.
