Flat-Screen HD Televisions - Plasma or LCD?
Price point no higher than $650
Currently I'm looking into an Olevia 32" LCD.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of Plasma?
Answer:
LCD Pros
1) Better selection of 1080p
2) Capable of 180 degree viewing angles
3) Cheaper in most cases
LCD Cons
1) Contrast ratio not as good as plasma (blacks are blacker; whites are whiter)
Plasma Pros
1) Best contrast ratio
Plasma Cons
2) Cheaper models are prone to glaring problems
I just purchased a 42in panasonic plasma and it is working out great. Instead of focusing on plasma or lcd; I recommend making sure that you buy a quality brand (Samsung or Panasonic) with multiple inputs (HDMI & Component) for your new HD equipment. When you're dealing with a 32" screen, make sure you have a minimum of 720p HD.
Sony bravia 32'' LCD T.Vs are good.
some T.Vs got HDMI Input
I'm currently starting the same buying process. Everybody is going to have their opinions, but here are some sites that I'm finding VERY useful:
http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/... and http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/... are totally comprehensive in breaking down the facts from the myths, as well as guides and reveiws. Both sites will be an enlightening experience, and you'll probably spend A LOT of time there.
Another great one is http://reviews.cnet.com/televisions/2001... It's the CNET Reviews section on all things TV. Watch for the specs like power usage, dimensions, weight, types and number of inputs, etc.
Another thing you can do to see what OTHERS are saying about your potential purchase is to visit Amazon.com or http://www.epinions.com/flat_panel_telev... and look for any particular model you're thinking about. The reviewers there are people that actually own and use what you're looking for, and are usually brutally honest. Google your model too. Besides sellers results, you'll probably trip over a few reviews.
Also be aware that this is the time of year that many manufacturers start to "phase out" a lot of models...
