Is in attendance any approach I can connect basic Hi - Fi speakers to a TV or DVD player?
Answers: You can buy an adapter (terminal to RCA plug) at Radio Shack. Just explain to the salesman at Radio shack that you hold speaker wires for terminal and need to connect to a TV. This is the cheapest method. However not adjectives the stores carry this adapter. Please give the name first. Another method is to buy a cheap stereo cable (L/R), cut one end and strip the insulation to expose the cable and use the wire to connect to the speakers.
Good luck
OH for the Love of Pete....DON'T do what the guy above me say....
Those audio outputs are 1 volt LINE LEVEL and it REQUIRES an AMP to drive speakers!!
You can't hook speakers DIRECTLY up to the RCA Audio outputs on a TV set....You MUST have an audio amplifier....
Wanna buy one cheap? Get on E-BAY and take a DENON amplifier for $30
You don't have to spend lots of money for one...used works a short time ago as well as NEW....
Now, I gotta stir find someone to kick that guy within the crotch for that answer....
Unless the DVD player has plugs for separate speakers, you can't.
You stipulation to connect the speakers to a receiver, and the connect your DVD player's audio cable to the receiver (the video cable go to your TV of course... :-)
Unless you want something really fancy, approaching a receiver proficient of 7.1 surround sound, and multiple HD video connections, you can find cheap receiver all over the place, beside low-end units handling 5.1 surround nouns going for a few hundred dollars at the store. (If you don't even need that much, a moment ago check pawn shops, garage sale, craigslist or ebay for older used unit.)
