How do you change the lamp on a DLP television?

Answer:
This varies from brand to brand. Unplug the power supply. Most have an access panel n the back of the TV, which you can locate because of the text printed on the panel. This panel is usually removed by taking out two screws, some also have a second panel inside that is held in place by the first panel. There is a box apx 4" square that has a handle and two or three screws you can loosen with your fingers, they are made into the box and you should be able to recognize them by looking at the new unit you have to install. TV Brands vary in design. Please also note that these bulbs are usually returned to the mfg. THEY CONTAIN MERCURY AND ARE HAZARDOUS SO FOLLOW THE MFG. DIRECTIONS ON RETURN OR DISPOSAL.

Most mfgs consider this a owner maint. item, however if you must replace the lamp during the initial warranty (usually 1 year) is should be covered by the mfg. read closely, I have found some replacments are only warrantied for 90 days, which really sucks.

This is probably the best time to mention your viewing habits, the life of the bulb can be dramatically shortened if you turn the
TV on and OFF often. If you are going to leave for half an hour and then come back and turn on the set. you are better off leaving the set on. Many sets have a feature where you will notice when you turn off the set it will actually stay on for 30-60 seconds, you won't have a pic, but the screen will glow in a dark room. This is for those of us who accidentally push the power button for whatever reason and then turn it right back on. This keeps the bulb from cooling down and right back up, which is hard on the bulb.
