will help you answer that question. If you input your address, the site will tell you what sort of antenna you will need in order to pick up a good signal from your local stations.
This could possibly give you CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS and Fox in HD, plus possibly "CW" and maybe some independent channels, depending on where you live.
But you would need either digital cable or satellite if you want to receive channels such as ESPN-HD, Discovery HD, etc., as well as standard channels such as CNN, Hallmark, Weather Channel, etc.
And yes, you definitely will need to purchase component cables in order to get a better picture from your DVD player.
Good luck!
You are def not going to get what you want out of it. The RCA cables you are using are analog and not digital and is the lowest grade of signal. You can get an antennae and possibly pick up a HD signal from your local broadcasts however
For what you have now, that was definitely overkill. Go to the store and at least buy yourself some component cables (Y, Cb, Cr) as opposed to the composite one you have (yellow) for use with your DVD player. DVD's are slowly going out the window, though, so I would recommend buying a Blu-Ray disc player - I was blown away when I saw the Blu-Ray version of Casino Royale playing on the same TV I have at home (we also have a 40" Sony Bravia) at my local circuit city. Blu-Ray discs play in 1080p resolution (1920x1080 pixels), which is the maximum resolution your Bravia supports. That'll really make your setup worthwile. And if you have the money, I would recommend upgrading to digital cable. You'll get some HD channels that way - I'm in Colorado and we have Comcast out here - they're excellent.
