LCD box beside pitch-black tie across middle of blind?

My LCD television have developed a dark flash straight across the middle of the screen. It is more apparent against a bright background and is totally ruining the picture. Why have this happened and what can I do if anything to rectify it. Television is out of guarantee. Many gratefulness.

Sounds like peak burn. This can be caused by a similar picture being onscreen for long period of time over the lifetime of the TV. Sounds like widescreen movies (black band at top and bottom of the screen) has cause this. The LCD screen can be replaced but it's not cheap. You might be better stale getting a new set.
