I want to connect my laptop to my new Sony HDTV so that the TV will be my monitor. What cable do I need, VGA?

I just want to do this for specific events. Is there a specific cable to use since my TV is HD? Do you know if the new picture will "fill my screen" or only partially? I guess I also have to change some settings on my laptop to accomplish this.
Thanks for any assistance. It's appreciated.

Answer:
s video will be the easiest, but if it has a moniter cable input, this will be the clearest.
I have a vizio plasma that I connect my desktop too & I use a vga cord much better picture but you may have too change your resolutions
you need an up to date video card that has a 'tv out' connection. Then acquire a computer to tv cable that is long enough to get to the front or back to the tv. You can use any Audio/Video input (front or back of the Televison.
give it up, unless you want to view your PC display at 640x480
