Is it OK to hang a flat-screen TV over a fireplace? Or will the heat damage the set?
Answer:
the heat will most likely damage your flat screen ,
even though it would look really nice above your
fireplace. its not worth all that money .

I know my boyfriends parents had a Plasma TV hung right on top of the fireplace at their vacation home. Not even a year after the TV started to have some strange lines coming down the screen i believe it is something about the pixels.
Their neighbors on the other hand have had no troubles with their plasma TV also located right above the fireplace.
I would highly recommend you contact the manufacturer and ask them.
well, is it a natural gas fireplace, or a wood burning fire, do you light it or flip a switch?
my house has a 45 inch plasma screen mounted about two feet above the fire, but it totally all depends. i would play it safe unless youre sure that it wont affect it. the stuff is expenmsive.
I don't recommend it, many mfg will void the warranty if they find it out when you take it in for repairs. Of course there are circumstances where it is OK, like a fireplace you do not use as anything but something to look at without the fire. A fireplace that does not give off heat, A fireplace that has blower unit controlled by internal thermostat (those kick on at 100 degree) and the TV is a couple of feet above the fireplace and there is a mantle between the firebox and the TV.
Now another point to consider, depending on the height of the firebox and the distance from the floor to the center of the TV. you may find the height is so great you are sitting down looking up at the set, Not necessarily an optimum viewing height, unless of course you don't mind a neck ache.
So why bother??
