I recently bought a brand new TV...?

...and it has a external speaker jack on the front. It is a Magnavox brand, and has a DVD player, and a builtin VHS player. My question is; When I plug in a external speaker to the outside speaker jack, the sound is very low.and I can barely hear it. What do I do, to get louder sound out of it.?

Answer:
check your audio settings.

using the remote go to menu... check the settings stero surround ect... try the different ones see which worksd best.. also see if there is an ext or int speaker setting ..also look in the back to see if there is a aswitch of ext /int
Just throw it away!

DO NOT give it to charity!

Throw it away!
well i would take it back and get my money back or exchange it(if they do that)
Magnavox? I'll bet the sales staff are still laughing! You're probably going to need an amplifier to correct that problem.
That plug is actually for headphone. If you wanna use for loud speaker you need to have an amplifier for that.
Just a guess here.

It may just be a line-out for you to connect to an external speaker (system) via a power amplifier.
Since your tv set is brand new, the best bet is to read the user manual most information will be there for you to read and the other thing is to go back to the salesman and ask how to connect the wires, im sure he is glad to help you out. Cheers.
Its only going to last you for a year anyways. Most SAMSUNG and Phillips/Magnavox experience problems under warranty and right after warranty.
