Sony Projection TV model KP-51DS1U makes a gas-leaking sound when Turned on. I get the picture, though, why?

Answer:
If it sounds like a sssssssssssssss sound and you have a cable box, YOU MAY have the volume control turned WAY down on the cable box and the TV's sound turned WAY UP..

That causes the noise level from the cable box to be amplified.
Press the Cable button on the cable remote, then press the Volume Up button.that volume bar at the top of the picture should be set to maximum.
The Sony volume bar always shows up at the bottom of the picture, so you should know the different bars when you see them.

THAT's the most COMMON Hiss sound that I have seen...or heard actually.

AS long as your TV doesn't <SNAP!> or <CRACK!> when it's running you should not be alarmed.
