Do you think lightening fried my big TV?
Answer:
Perhaps. Surge protectors often do very little.
Try unplugging the tv for a few hours. Also try a different power outlet.
Could be. We have a surge protector, and lightning still struck us. We lost TV's and phones.
My tv did the same thing, I would think it would be the lightening because it rained that weekend we were out of town and when we got back our tv wouldn't even turn on & it was brand new. SO probably.
Its gotten 4 of mine so its a very good paoosibiity on lightning bolt got mine my dads and my brothers all in the same lick also my in-laws who live 1.3 miles away.
This sounds likely. A friend's computer once stopped working after a storm but after a few hours it fixed itself.
I know that some electronics can "protect themselves"
Sorry I'm not a technician. I don't know the proper words lol.
You should have it checked out.
It's possible. Surge protectors don't work for very long.
if a lightning bolt strikes a direct line to your house, even if you have a surge protector, your electronics will still get fried. turn off and unplug anything important that you love (aka your tv) during big storms.
Sounds exactly like what mine did when it was hit by lightening. One thing the manufacturer suggested was to unplug the TV for 90 minutes. They told me it could take that long for it to cycle and check everything just like you would with a PC, only much longer. I tried it with no luck and took it to a authorized repair man. Good Luck!
It was also on a surge protector.
If you get hit by lightning, it wont matter if you have a surge protect on your power line. Lightning usually gets into a TV via the cable or antenna line. Frys the input stage, which usually includes the main microprocessor. You'll need to try to get your homeowners insurance to pay for this.
