What does component attached mean in LCD tv terms?

Someone said that I should connect my PS3 by HDMI to component? what does this mean?

Answer:
Component is what is used in HDTV's before HDMI came along. it had like 6\7 wires and supported Audio and HDTV
(up to 1080i)

HDMI is 1 wire supports 1080p Full HD Picture and sound.

there is 2 adapters that support HDMI,
HDMI to DVI (no Sound)
and look somewhere or ask Sony for HDMI to Component. if you dont have HDTV get the Red\White\Yellow.
