i just bought exotic 40" 1080p Samsung LCD tv, and tried to link my gateway laptop to it. I used VGA cable, and i can see pretty much everything on tv. since i download some AVI movies, i am competent to run it on my laptop through realplayer or wmp, but on TV, all i see is the player, but no movie running, one and only blank. how come? is it set up? everything else shown on tv.

Have you tried playing a regular DVD on the laptop and see if that shows on your tv? I am suspecting that a screen resoulution issue is to blame. Have you tried adjust the screen resolution by going to display properties on your computer. Are you competent to see your mouse arrow on the player when looking through the tv? What happnes if you put your player on full screen? If none the above works, try putting your tv's resoultion to any 480i, 480p, 720p, or 1080i. If this doesn work try converting the AVI videos to MPEG2 by using some features of software. Have you tried adjusting the video acceleration facet on your media players, I know Windows medium player has it, other might too. That's adjectives I can think of.
