Will an outdoor TV aerial work well indoors?

I have been unable to obtain a signal for Freeview using several indoor aerials. I don't wish to attach an aerial to the roof as it may attract the attention of the self righteous, self aggrandising fascist assholes known as the BBC. I never have and never will buy a TV license for such a corrupt, elitist and despicable organisation.

Answer:
Since no one bothered to answer your question, I felt that I might as well weigh in. Winegard antennas, a manufacturing firm here in the USA, says that indoor antennas only receive approximately half the signal strength that the same antenna mounted outside on the roof would.

I'll let you and the other answerers worry about the politics.
caught you
It would work as good as a loft aerial ! the difference is only weather proofing on the outdoor one ! Cheers Karan
If it don't, you can always hang your washing on it
and for your information , the BBC don't go looking for aerials , they pick up signals from TV sets
u hav to get it polorised rite if every 1s aerials out side is horizontal so the sticky out bits r pointing to the sides put urs the same way, if there virtical put it that way so the sticky out bits pointing up oh and make sure its pointimg in the rite direction lol
Ooh you are a one aren't you. You are in for a rude shock one day. You don't have to have an aerial on the roof to advertise that you are using a TV. A detector van can confirm that a TV is in use in a particular house or flat , you can't hide in a multi occupancy dwelling. A computer holds the records of every address in the UK and this can be cross checked against those having a valid licence, which gives a list of all unlicensed premises which the Licensing people concentrate upon in their spot checks. It is only a matter of time till they catch up with you and dish out a £1000 fine.
Like oadby-wonder says, the presence or not of an aerial won't protect you from the attentions of the licencing people.

They now have a list of every property which doesn't have a licence registered, and their vehicles can detect a TV in use. They had a purge around here recently, and caught out a fair few. The fines can be hefty.
yes if you`ve got the space to put one.!
Yes they work perfectly. I have one in my loft. Its easier to install than on the roof too. The main thing to do is avoid pointing an aerial at trees they are very good at absorbing UHF radio but roof tiles are not so good. I like your rant about the BBC, I heartily agree!
hey dude, you're an INSPIRATION to the NATION!

i salute you !

now back to your question, YUP they work FINE, i got one in the LOFT!!

p.s. if you do get SPOT checked, just tell them that you're a HOUSE SITTER and that the owner has gone on HOLIDAY!!
A outdoor aerial is big and awkward to use indoors and you would not be able to stablilize it. A indoor aerial is better but you'll need to be in a high position and you will have to point it in the right direction to get a good signal. I have a TV in my upstairs bedroom and use a indoor aerial and I also have a freeview receiver box. I can get quite a lot of channels and I will tell you what they are.
