HDMI is a digital signal. Only newer TVs have them. If you TV is not that new, than you can't use it. Here's a simple rule. Look at the plug, if there is nothing on your tv that looks like that plug, then you are out of luck.

IF you don't have an HDTV, there is not much point in getting a PS3. It's main selling point is that it provides graphics in HD.
If you don't have an HDTV, just use the composite cables that came in the box.
First off you don't want a plasma for games get a good LCD like a Samsung. If you dont have a HDMI pug on the back of your tv then you cant get the HD quality from the PS3. You can still hook up PS3 to older tvs using the audio video cables it came with. It just wont have the best quality picture.
