I have a sony XBR TV. I am having trouble with the sound. there is a lot of static. If I connect my TV to a reciever and speakers the static goes away. Please help.

Sounds like an internal problem possibly with a resistor...how long have you had you tv? because the manufacturers waranty is 1 yr. and sony is very good at helping you with problems and backing up there wanranty
When you say static, do you mean like car noise, ignition type, blender or microwave type or do you mean hum? Is it in all the channels? Are you on Cable, Satellite or VHF/UHF antenna? Check local channels as oppose to cable/satellite channels. When you say a receiver hookup, what kind are we talking about?
