I just got a used Mitsubishi TS-50811. It worked great for about a week and then last night the picture started to get some what scrambled - like poor video quality. Then all of a sudden the picture went off and the tv powered down. I waited a minute and turned it back on. It came on but is was doing the scrabled thing again and then went off. Now today, when I turn it on I only get audio but no video. I've searched online for some help but I can't find very much for this model and I was hoping someone with TV repair experience could help. Could this be a bad lamp and how would I tell which one it was?

First off, let me tell you if the TV shut itself down that means it is trying to protect itself from a circuit being overloaded so I wouldn't turn it on until it's fixed or you could do more damage if you haven't already. It could have started out as something simple like a voltage issue. If you haven't done more extensive damage it's probably worth fixing. Let me give you a few recommendations. I use to own an electronic repair shop. First, don't let anyone take the tv to their shop to repair it, have them do an in home service so you can ask questions and you can get a sense on whether or not you are being scammed. A lot of companies will overcharge you for a simple repair. Also a lot of companies will do a free in home diagnostics where they will apply the trip charge to the repair if you decide to have it fixed. You can expect to pay anywhere from $200-$600 for the repair. Good luck
it sounds like a bad capacitor in the on/off switch has gone out. cost varies, but 125-150 is about right to repair.
